Expected deduction, not a refund
Cost under $20,000, first used from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, turnover under $10 million: the helper multiplies cost by the business-use percentage you enter.
Instant asset write-off helper
Runs in this tab only. Reset clears it. Nothing is stored or sent.
The helper applies the 2026-27 rules described by the ATO for simplified depreciation: aggregated turnover under $10 million, cost under $20,000 per asset, first used or installed ready for use from 1 July 2026 through 30 June 2027. A cost of $20,000 or more is estimated on the pool at 15% then 30%. You type the tax rate. There is no bracket table in this page.
Optional. Use a company rate or a marginal rate your agent has given you. Leave it blank to skip the tax difference.
General information only, not tax or financial advice. Each result says “Estimate only — not tax advice” and links to the ATO instant asset write-off page. Cars, leases and assets outside simplified depreciation are not calculated. The 2026-27 car limit and the GST treatment of the $20,000 test were not verified.
How the rules are applied
- Under $20,000, inside the year, turnover under $10 million, simplified depreciation: may be eligible. Expected deduction is cost × business use.
- $20,000 or more: not an instant write-off. Indicative pool estimate, 15% in the first year and 30% of the remaining balance in the next year.
- First use on 30 June 2027 is inside the year. First use on 1 July 2027 is not.
- Turnover that is not under $10 million: no simplified estimate.
- Cars, leases and assets outside the simplified rules: a prompt to check the ATO or a registered tax agent, not a number.
