EOFY Checklist 2027 for Australian Small Business

Updated 17 October 2026 · General information · 2 min read

General information only, not tax or financial advice. This site is not the ATO. Check ato.gov.au or ask a registered tax agent. Last checked against ATO and Parliament sources: 17 October 2026. Examples use made-up numbers. Dates and amounts marked uncertain should be re-checked.

Short answer: The Australian financial year ends 30 June 2027 (a Wednesday). Use the list below to get organised, then open the interactive checklist or the write-off helper. Each item links to a page with the detail we could check.

Checklist

  • Records and reconciliation: bank accounts, invoices and receipts reconciled to 30 June.
  • Assets: list assets bought this year and check whether each was first used or installed ready for use by 30 June (instant asset write-off, first-use rule).
  • Depreciation method: if you use simplified depreciation, check the small business pool.
  • Stock: plan a stocktake (see the deductions checklist).
  • Bad debts and prepayments: see the deductions page. Those rules were not verified here.
  • Super for employees: under Payday Super, contributions are due within 7 business days of each payday. This site does not recommend a fund.
  • STP and BAS: know the lodgment dates on the key dates page.
  • Contractors: check whether you need a TPAR.
  • Keep records for the period the ATO requires. The retention period was not re-read on an ATO page for this site.
  • Talk to a registered tax agent about your own situation.

Dates

  • 30 June 2027 is a Wednesday (a calendar fact).
  • BAS, STP finalisation and TPAR dates are on the key dates page. Some of those dates are inferred and marked uncertain.

Questions

Is this advice?

No. It is a general checklist.

Is there a calculator?

Yes. The write-off helper does the arithmetic in your browser. It is an estimate only, and it does not send the figures anywhere.

What we could not verify

  • The record-retention period, and any industry-specific EOFY obligations.
  • Anything announced after 17 October 2026.
